Jerry Wood
No one who meets Republican Bob Darby, candidate for the 31st District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, can deny that he is a very impressive man. He is an asset to the county, with the energy and resources it takes to make a difference in this community. He deserves credit for the campaign he has run these past few months—all politicians would benefit from emulating his grace and intelligent approach to real issues.
While we expect Mr. Darby will contribute much to Rappahannock in the coming years, his opponent, Democrat Jerry Wood, has a long record of working for the public good in this district. Mr. Wood’s 30-plus years in local business" politics and service clubs stand in marked contrast to Mr. Darby, who only recently came on the scene.
That’s not the only edge Mr. Wood has on Mr. Darby. Mr. Wood has assembled a wide base of support; both Realtors and preservationists have endorsed him, as well as the Virginia Education Association. Mr. Wood is more likely to protect a woman’s right to choose if she desires an abortion, although Mr. Darby has assured the public he would too.
There are many ways for Mr. Darby to help make this area a better place to live, and we hope to see more of him in public service. But in this race, Mr. Wood is clearly the superior candidate.
