This weekend is the third in October and the traditional time for the annual Rappahannock House Tour and Dried Flower Sale.
This will be the 35th in the series sponsored by the Churchwomen of Bromfield Parish, Trinity Episcopal Church, in historic Washington, Va. in the Blue Ridge Piedmont.
As in the past the tour headquarters will be Trinity Parish Hall.
The tour will feature three Rappahannock homes chosen for their architectural, historic and scenic interest; as well as the sale of dried flower arrangements prepared by ladies of the church, the Rappahannock County Garden Club and other members of the community.
These colorful and artistic arrangements of dried flowers and many varieties of garden field and forest greens have graced tables in homes from Ohio to Maine to Georgia.
The sale represents an opportunity to buy that distinctive, oneof-a-kind gift to brighten the dining, hall or library table in the winter months not only this season but for many to come.
These lovely arrangements retain their beauty and charm for years as attested to by one on display at the Parish Hall, but not for sale, that was done by George Davis, a prominent Washington lawyer, in 1971.
Tickets are available at tour headquarters and the individual homes, $10 for three homes and tea and $3.50 for a single house.
Box lunches provided by the ladies of Washington First Baptist Church will also be available on both days. Homes will be open from 11 a. m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.
The third home on this year’s tour is Winderreer Farm, the home of Emiel and Lynda Smet in Amissville, off Route 730.
The cedar-sided contemporary was designed and built by the Smets in 1981. It is a modified single story, that is, there is a loft over the central part of the house.
