Bernie Price of Woodville became a RSVP volunteer in April of1991. He is an active member of the^ Woodville Baptist Church and loves visiting and entertaining seniors. from nutrition site programs and, nursing home residents as well.

He carries a protable organ witly;. him and sings favorite old-time^ songs with residents. He also does, volunteer driving to and from medical appointments for people without, transportation. The following is his own story in his own words.

“As my mother’s only boy, andr with three sisters, I learned early,, that it was more blessed to give than to receive. She would take me to see . shut-ins, the lonely, the handp, icapped. As she so often said, ‘Olden,’ people are young people grown up.’

“And even at age 93 and in a., nursing home, I always took her a. present. ‘I don’t need a thing, but I, do enjoy unwrapping something,' he, said. i

“When we lived in Vienna, E worked for more than 20 years with' the 50-90 Club. With the help of' some devoted 20 sponsors, we< planned field trips, visits, had meetings, developed a telephone hotline for those living alone. Some had no1 family, some had children who lived hundreds of miles away, most lived alone in a house or an apartment. When we moved to our farm in Rap-' pahannock three years ago, it was only natural that 1 would get into some work that I had done before and at the same time holding on to, some of the work in Fairfax County. •

“We moved my mother-in-law from Fairfax County to the Culpeper Health Care Center. This, gave me the opening I needed to get. familiar with their program. They have a director of recreation}' Tammy Wallace, with whom I work,, but I also do a lit of individual visits. ,
