Prince Michel, Virginia’s leading winery, located midway between Culpeper and Madison on Route 29, opened its fine French restaurant on Sept. 24. Open for lunch noon to 2 p.m. and dinner 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday the restaurant has limited seating and reservations are recommended.
The fixed price menu emphasizes imaginatively presented dishes for each course. Lunch is $20, dinner is $50 exclusive wine, spirits, taxes and gratuity. Wine prices are the same as in the winery’s retail shop, with most wines falling in the $10 to $12 per bottle range.
Complementing Prince Michel’s wine museum, winery tour and gift shop, the Prince Michel Restaurant follows in the tradition of many vineyards in California where winery restaurants have greatly enhanced tourism. Virginia Wine Country has become an important destination, and travelers coming from the north will find the Prince Michel Restaurant ideally situated at the gateway to approximately 20 of Virginia’s 40plus farm wineries. Ironically, this Central Virginia Wine Road shares a common bond with a similar road that runs through the heart of the Napa Valley in California - both are labeled Route 29.
Guests enter through the Wine Shop where tastings at the wine bar are available. There is a lower level entrance for handicapped patrons.
