The community college system will be the biggest benefactor, with $75.9 million slated to be divided among 18 two-year schools across the state. George Mason University, which has set up a public service hotline on the issue, 703-993-8842, will take the lion’s share among fouryear institutions, with $47 million allocated to the Northern Virginia campus.
The largest single educational project is phase one of the Medical Sciences Building at VCU in Richmond.
State-supported capital improvement programs for education have been non-existent in Virginia since 1986, according to the Foundation’s brochure. During that time, enrollment at state colleges and universities has increased by 40,000, and will increase by another 65,000 by the end of the decade.
