To the Editor:
In response to the Board of Supervisors’ desire to see that more of our black bears are gunned-down than ever before, I feel compelled to reply. Must immediate profits always outweigh long-term gains to a waning ecosystem? Apparently the board, our “guardians of the county,” feel this is so.
It is my belief that the residents of Rappahannock County are privileged to live in one of the last remaining strongholds of wildlife habitat.
One of life’s greated joys, in my opinion, is that of being able to catch an infrequent glimpse of one of these magnificent creatures who are trying, against all odds, to share a small portion of this planet with us. Since this is not a financially oriented motive, it is apparently not a priority consideration.
Profits seem to be the sole concern, so perhaps the board will consider some financial woes in regal’d to the killing-off of our black bears. It is no revelation to Rappahannock
