The board approved changes in the budget that result from adding over $396,000. The additional appropriation was approved by the Board of Supervisors last week. Most of the additional funds come from another $162,000 from the RJR/Nabisco grant for developing a fourth grade curriculum using computers, and a grant of $136,000 from the federal government for serving at-risk students.
Other funds in the additional October appropriation were for textbooks, from rental fees collected from students, and from carry-over and additional funds for special programs. $25,435 is an additional appropriation because of increased enrollment. $10,258 of that is local money, and $15,435 is from the state.
The budget was based on an enrollment of 1,010. The increased appropriation would be for 1,025. There are 1,029 students enrolled now.
Gangel said he would only use these funds in an emergency, and he would come back to the supervisors to request their permission before spending the money.
The board approved several field trips and fund-raisers and adopted a resolution thanking the staff from both schools for their cooperation in moving four classrooms to make room for an additional kindergarten class.
