Flowerfest set
for Saturday
Saturday, Oct. 17 is the date for the third annual “Flowerfest” to be held at la dama maya herb and flower farm near Luray. The festival which is educational in nature and free to the public runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The opening lecture at 11 a.m. presented by Dennis Wetzel is entitled Old Garden Roses and will include lore and legend associated with the rose throughout history as well as identification of specific classes of roses, their culture, growing tips and sources.
At 12:30 nationally recognized •culinary author of “Herbs in the ! Kitchen” and “Flowers in the •JCitchen,” Susan Belsinger, will ‘spread culinary magic when speaking about gardening and cooking ■•with flowers. Susan will show you Oiow to bring your flowers from the •garden into the kitchen to add color Inland livliness to your meals. • Dried flowers will be the topic of JJthe 2 p.m. presentation by Maureen •Messick, co-owner of the farm. She "will discuss flowers that dry well, •the best drying techniques and their "uses in wreaths and arrangements. • A wide selection of herb plants, ‘dried flowers, books and dried herb •and flower products from la dama ;maya will be offered.
