Big Devil Stairs
At 1.1 miles from the beginning of the walk, the forest opens up, with views off the side of Mount Marshall. At mile 1.9, you will cross the upper reaches of Big Devil Stairs gorge; you will find a small stream across the trail here. This stream is the headwaters of the larger stream which courses down Big Devil Stairs canyon and joins into the Rush River in Harris Hollow below. Just beyond this small stream will be the junction with the Big Devil Stairs Trail. Turn right onto the Big Devil Stairs Trail, which follows the east rim of the gorge. Shortly, the trail will make a few switchbacks (zigzags in the trail so that the walking does not proceed too steeply downhill) as it follows the rim of the gorge.
