Walking the walk
At the back of the parking lot is a gated fire-road with a yellow chain across it, next to a 3' x 4' signpost showing a map of the trails in this area, lb the right of the fire road is a 4 foot concrete post marking the Appalachian Trail. Walk downhill along the Appalachian Trail for about l/10th mile to a second concrete post. This has a metal band around the top showing the direction of the Appalachian Trail and the direction of the Bluff Trail. Turn left at this concrete post. You will be walking downhill through a dense overhead canopy of mature trees. Even though it might be 95 degrees in lowland Rappahannock County, it is sure to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler here.
