summer singing birds (most other birds have quieted in summer, after their spring singing during mating season). The rufous-sided towhee has two songs that have been described as “drink-yourteeeee” and “cha-wink” (in bird song language, of course, not in English). The red-eyed vireo sings triplets which sound like “look at me, up in the tree, here I am, look at me.” The towhee might be seen flitting in the brush and tree branches along the trail, but the vireo will be high up in the tree canopy.
