I always felt there was a modicum of truth in the old saw about the farmer and the stubborn mule. The farmer couldn’t get the mule to do anything. So, he asked a neighbor for some help. His friend showed up the next morning and promptly hit the mule squarely between the eyes with a 2 by 4. The mule’s owner said, “Friend, I wanted you to teach him something, not kill him.”
His friend responded, “I’m going to teach him something, but first, I have to get his attention.”
