At the conclusion of two years as Superintendent of the RCPS, I do not feel there is fat in the budget. A major reduction in administrative positions was handled two months before my arrival in July 2003. I inherited a lean budget from the School Board and my predecessor, a tradition we have continued. Following are cost reduction initiatives since July 1, 2003:
We have begun a paperwork reduction process to encourage more electronic communication and electronic storage of documents that may result in reduced costs for paper and reduction of staff time in document reproduction and filing. It is too early to quantify savings, but we don’t expect the savings to be in the tens of thousands at this stage.
