The land you have been walking on was once owned by the Miller family, who received a land grant of about 10,000 acres from Lord Fairfax in the early 1700s. In 1926, the land was divided among seven Miller children-six sons and one daughter. In the early 1930s, the Commonwealth of Virginia purchased about 6,600 acres of the Miller lands that were along the top of the Blue Ridge. These lands were then donated to the U.S. government to form part of what is now Shenandoah National Park. Return to the Bluff Trail and turn left to retrace your steps back to your vehicle.
