ening injuries and Downey was charged with stopping on the highway by State Trooper Carrieann, Corbett. Mountain Task Force

Rappahannock County received some extra attention from the Virginia State Police over the weekend. State Troopers were deployed in what First Sergeant Gary Settle referred to as an “InHouse Task Force” over the weekend in order to better oversee weekend traffic on US 211 and Rt 647. The task force was partly in response to the recent high accident volume on those roads, particularly among motorcyclists. Rather than deploy more troopers, officers were condensed over the peak traffic periods.

“We tried to really hone in on the peak periods, to try and send a strong message and get more visibility.” explained Settle.

The task force issued 21 violations over the weekend, 9 to motorcycles and 12 to cars.

‘We re going to be out there again this weekend, we had favorable comments from motorcyclists,” said Settle.
