pleased that Ki Theatre will be represented in the competition,” said Hardee, who added, “it's a very popular event and there are usually more plays submitted than there are performance slots.”
The Washington Theatre Festival has been an important cauldi on of creativity for local writers, directors, and performers for decades. Producers for “Rising Tide” are Source's Keith Parker, founder of the competition; and Lynnie Raybuck, founder and artistic director of Smallbeer Theatre Company. Raybuck also teaches acting at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Since 1986 Ki Theatre has developed original plays, innovative community programs and workshops that use theatre, music and storytelling as a catalyst for creativity, public dialogue and community building. Ki Theatre's works hope to bridge the boundaries that separate audience and artist, across the divisions of age, race and education, to strengthen community and to speak - through the power and universal appeal of story - to the cultural political and spiritual issues of our time.
