Bill McShea, head of the Clarke County Natural Resources Mapping Project, will speak at the August RLEP board meeting on the status of the project. This year-long study of Clarke County's natural resources - the first of . its kind in Virginia - is hoped by many to serve as a statewide model to understand how land use affects plants and wildlife. The project engages landowners in the survey, with the goal of having a natural resource map of the county to show how the decisions of government and landowners affect natural resource populations. RLEP's Biodiversity Task Force is monitoring the Clarke County project to see if such a project would be feasible here. Mr. McShea is a research scientist at the Smithsonian's Conservation and Research Center in Front Cafe from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.. For more information call, Shana Salehi at 923-4133.
