“Assisted living is something between institutionalized living and home life,” explained Violet.
In a traditional nursing home, the residents are totally dependent on the care of the orderlies and nurses working there. Many of the residents in these homes are completely bedridden. In contrast, assisted living homes emphasize the independence of their residents.
“It's basically doing what you want, plus help,” explained Charity.
. This emphasis on individulaized care and attention does mean that Jackson House has to screen prospective patients to make sure that they are suited to that independence. If a senior is interested in living at Jackson House they would be interviewed and evaluated by the Silleros.
Residents will live in the Jackson House under 24-hour staff supervision, with their laundry and meals provided for and their medicine administered by professionals. There will be some organized activities but residents would mostly be allowed to do as they did at home.
