Hearthstone

Students from the fourth and fifth grades at Hearthstone recently performed for a Senior Center in Warrenton, Virginia. They played music and sang for the audience, then attended lunch and interviewed several of the senior citizens. The students wrote their own interview questions, paired up with a senior and asked questions. The students enjoyed hearing about when and where people were bom, where they went to school and what they liked best about school, and other questions about what life was Idee years before these children were bom.

The fourth and fifth grades also recently took a walking tour of Sperryville with local historian, Mr. Russell. Mr. Russell created a booklet with photographs of area homes and buildings, and historical information about the town of Sperryville. This field trip was part of the class’s lesson block on Early American Histoiy, and they enjoyed learning about their local history as well as the American Revolution and the Civil War.
