Maggie L. Walker, Richmond’s governor school, won the large school division, defeating Fairfax’s Thomas Jefferson High School’s B team in the championship. Again, those teams advance to the large schools’ national tournament.
In the Knowledge Masters Open tournament Tuesday, a group of 22 Rappahannock freshmen and eighth graders totaled 1419 points to finish 69th nationally. A total of 146 teams competed for the title, which features a 200-question trivia contest.
In the high school division, Rappahannock had a team of 21 students compile 1282 points in finishing 19th in the Virginia state rankings. A total of 774 schools nationally and internationally competed. Rappahannock finished 298th overall.
