Baader has the same lifelong Rappahannock County street creed as Taylor. She knows the same ‘ people and hears the same gossip. Rifaat is a contrast to both of them. Her political presence in the county was felt long before this interim supervisor process began, and she was the only applicant to have held a public office. Rifaat is also different from the men on the board. She’s only lived in Rappahannock twenty years, and brings an outspoken viewpoint to the political discussions she frequently joins. However, Rifaat is also a farmer, and as dedicated to Rappahannock’s traditional way of life as anyone.
Would it have been such a stretch for the board to appoint Baader or even Rifaat? Is a discussion in which all the participants see the issue exactly the same even worth having? The special election for the Piedmont District is this November.
If the voters of Piedmont district choos^ Tom Taylor, the board will continue on, agreeable and united, and that might not be a bad thing.
Until then, there ‘s still one more chance to give the board an exciting new look.
