Although Taylor was appointed at the May 1 meeting, he will not take his seat for the Piedmont District until the BOS June meeting. Until then, several Rappahannock County government appointments associated with the late Chairman Estes and the Piedmont District will remain open until June. Most notable among these is the Piedmont seat on the county planning commission, held by Thomas Junk until his term expired on May 3. The BOS decided to delay a vote on Junk’s seat until June in deference to Taylor, and the Piedmont District will not be represented at the May planning commission meeting. Junk is eligible to serve another term. Other appointments left vacant by the passing of the prolific Chairman Estes include positions on the Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority, the Rappahannock County Fire Levy Board, and the Workforce Investment Council. The BOS has indicated that these vacancies will be addressed at their June meeting.
