FARES If you find yourself in the very unfortunate position of having to fly on short notice to the funeral of a family member, the airlines may be able to help. Because shopping for an airline ticket is one of the last things a griefstricken individual wants to do, many airlines offer bereavement fares (otherwise, known as compassionate fares) to people who must travel for reason of a death in the family. While these fares may not come with the lowest possible price, they are usually sold at a discount. In addition, they are likely to be free of restrictions, giving travelers flexibility. To qualify for a bereavement fare, you must submit specific information about the ailing or deceased person.
