First Thursday
Headwaters started ten years ago through the coordinating efforts of several moms including Rosa Crocker, Susan McCarthy, Kathryn Treanor, Jan Makela, Vinnie Carney and Ellen Adams. Called “First Thursday” it grew into what it is today - a vital foundation that serves the school community by strengthening partnerships to make things happen.
Headwater’s annual fundraiser - The Taste of Rappahannock - is held in September. “You’re coming, aren’t you,” queried Biggs of Coombs. Coombs grimaced with a look of uncertainty. “Depends if our load of wood has arrived for the new house,” and then quickly added,” the planning is already underway for this year’s “taste” and I can tell you that there are some fantastic auction items.”
“I will miss this tremendously,” admitted Coombs, “it’s bittersweet.”
As Coombs prepares for a new chapter in her life with a new project underway, Biggs is optimistic that a dynamic successor will be found. “Headwaters takes things beyond what the school budget can afford,” said Biggs, “to give our students the very best that we can in this community. We’re hoping to have someone in place by the end of May,” added Biggs. If you’re interested:
Headwaters is looking for a well-organized self starter who has skills in community fund raising, high level communication, planning, marketing and diplomacy and who preferably has experience working with boards of directors, non-profit fundraising and budgeting.
