When the 911 emergency call system was installed in the county, everyone needed a specific address, so the emergency services could be dispatched to a specific location.
That’s a good thing. How some of the current road names were chosen is somewhat less clear, at least to me.
I know the people doing it gave their best effort and some of the people living on a certain lane wanted their little part of paradise to called, “Sweetheart Lane,” or some such, and that is all well and good.
But, it could be that for some of the names, a bit more research could have been done.
For instance, Rt. 629 above Flint Hill was named Bean Hollow Road, and it is true that many of the locals called it that. It is not clear, at all, as to why it was called that.
On some old maps we see it referred to as Beahm Hollow, and some believe that that was a cartographer’s error or misprint.
