Academic Team
finished sixth
Rappahannock County High School’s academic team finished sixth Saturday afternoon in the small schools division of the National Academic Quiz Tbumament at the University of Virginia.
A total of 10 teams competed in the small schools division, which featured teams from all parts of Virginia.
Roanoke’s Cave Spring A team captured the small school division title, defeating Christiansburg’s Eastern Montgomery, 190-100, in the championship. The two schools, however, advanced to the national small schools tournament to be held in June in Chicago.
Rappahannock completed its day with a 3-5 record.
Freshman co-captain A.J. Collins participated in all eight of Rappahannock’s matches and finished as the team’s top scorer with 270 points. Junior co-captain Clay Vickers competed in seven matches and posted 90 points. Senior Zach McKinney scored 80 points in seven matches.
