In a giant “drift buster,” a fourwheel drive International dump truck reserved for heavy duty jobs, they attempted to negotiate the deeply rutted and rock strewn track of what might laughingly be called a road. They made it up the hollow a mile or so before being stopped by ravines gouged by the flood waters. They couldn’t even hear, much less see, the grader working somewhere up ahead. “And this is typical of all the hollows along the Blue Ridge,” Askew noted.
