Steeplechase racing will celebrate
its 140th anniversary this
year with all signs pointing optimistically
to another record
breaking season.
Thirty-five days of sanctioned
racing spread through the spring
and fall hunt meetings are scheduled,
complemented by a dozen
other classics to be staged at
Monmouth Park, Belmont Park
and Saratoga.
A total of 11 days of sanctioned
races will take place in
Virginia, more than any other
state, beginning in April with
Strawberry Hill near Richmond,
and culminating with the Montpelier
races in early November.
If you suppose it might be difficult
to top ’chasing activity in
1983, not to worry. Last year’s
