U ncertainty over a “grant anticipation” financing plan and lack of word on final award of the $1.5 million grant for construction of Sperryville’s sewer system prompted the Water and Sewer Authority to shorten its agenda at Monday night’s meeting.
“As of Friday, we’ve received no word on the grant. We’re still hanging in there,” reported Chairman Bob Dennis, in reference to notification of formal grant award expected at any time from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Dennis said he had filed a request with Virginia’s congressional delegation, asking the congressmen to waive the five day notification period, lead time given politicians so they can notify their constituents of federal largresse. “We’ve heard nothing from the congressional people, nothing from EPA, nothing from anybody.”
“I expect the EPA grant will be coming out in the next few days,” noted Wayne Cilimberger, executive director of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission who has been assisting the WSA on the sewer project.
