Wear Seat Belts

Last year in Virginia, 16 children under the age of five lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes and 1,596 children of the same age were seriously injured. The Virginia Child Restraint Law became effective Jan. 1, 1983. The law requires that “...Any parent or legal guardian who drives any motor vehicle registered in Virginia and manufactured subsequent to Jan. 1, 1968, shall ensure that his/her child or ward under the age of four being transported therein is provided with and properly secured in a child restraint device approved by the Superintendent of State Police, except that a child over 40 lbs. may be secured in a standard automobile seat belt.”
