Konick noted, however, that the zoning ordinance requires Health Department approval of a sewage disposal system for dwellings, places of employment AND buildings “where human beings congregate." So, he concluded, the addition proposed by Rev. Burke would need some type of plumbing facilities. “Maybe they could put in ‘johnnies on the spot.’ I know the Health Department has approved those in the past.

Another obstacle to aproval for the church addition comes in compliance with the statewide building code, regulations enforced by the building inspector who serves both Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, Konick noted.

In addition, the zoning administrator said, Burke plans for the extra space for Sunday school classes to be in a trailer on a permanent foundation, not the modular building specified in the original presentation to the supervisors.

Richard McNear, professional planner who is assisting the commissioners with the ongoing review of county zoning ordinances, noted that a trailer, even on a permanent foundation, would not be permitted under the revised ordinances as currently proposed.

“It wouldn’t be allowed under this one either,” said Chairman A. Y. Stokes, pointing to the existing zoning ordinance.
