After having studied different types of turf used in England and France Great Meadow was entirely seeded with a mix of six different types of seed adapted to local conditions. Some Fortress fescue, the seed used on American football fields, was also added. This composition seemed to please the riders at the first gallop on the turf last ‘June.
Plans for the new course were done by Steve Groat of Unionville, Pa. There will be four or five courses, each 3,200 meters (approximately 2 miles) around with turns. Two of the tracks will be for timber races, one for flat races, and one or two for steeplechasing.
