Considering that the next General Assembly elections are almost two years away, a surprising number of lawmakers are busily attempting to build up their brownie points with the voters by introducing or supporting emotion-laden legislation. Many of these bills have little value beyond their transparent political appeal.

Some of them are unfair, some are probably unconstitutional, and some are simply ludicrous.

In the last category a remarkable contribution jvas made by Del. Theodore V. “Ted” Morrison (DNewport News). Now, Morrison is normally the most responsible and level-headed of lawmakers. He is chairman of the prestigeous House Finance Committee.
