“We don’t .do anybody any favors by allowing them to do it (build structures with drainfield8 in a flood plain). Actually, we’re doing them a favor if we don’t allow it,” said Commissioner Newbill Miller as the Rappahannock Planning Commission wrestled with another request for flood plain construction at last Wednesday’s meeting.
But as the dicussion progressed, the commissioners learned that the flood plain restriction is only one of the problems Rev. John Burke faces with his application for an addition to the Gid Brown Bible Church.
After receiving a request from the Board of Supervisors for a recommendation on a possible ordinance revision to cover Burke’s application, Miller inspected the church lot in the hollow above Washington. “I went up and looked and it’s definitely flood plain soil,” he reported.
