“It isn’t easy getting a show horse ready to race overjumps,” adds Mr. Smithwick. “Crocodile Fears, who is a six-year-old, had never been pushed very hard, he was what I call ‘fat inside’!
“He had all the problems a two-year-old usually has at the race track such as bucked shins and bowed tendons. It took a lot of work to get him right, but now I think he is one of the best timber horses around.”
A horse that shows good potential in the hunt field, has confidence, can carry weight and covers a good length of ground will often make a good point-topoint horse if trained by the right person. Again, finding a reliable and successful trainer is very important.
