Konick listed the subdivision requirements which would be violated by Mrs. Stuart's proposal: a 3.1 lot without public water and sewer would be created (regulations require a minimum of five acres without those services except in cases of subdivision for conveyance to family members) and the larger 6.1 acre rear lot would have no road frontage (regulations require 250 feet on a 50 foot right-of-way for lots under 25 acres).
“I'm very sympathetic towards the Ruritan Club but I don't see how we can do it," Miller repeated. "Zoning can protect you as well as restrict you," he told the adjoining landowners opposed to the subdivision request. “That’s what it’s intended to do — protect you."

Immediate maintenance projects involve leveling and re-graveling unpaved roads. “I’ve ordered 500 tons of stone for Rappahannock County but we’re going to need more. I think we could use all 500 tons in Beahm Hollow alone," Askew said after he and Ryan were forced to turn around on their trip up the hollow in the big International “drift buster."
Flood waters that submurged paved roads leading back into hollows washed away chunks of asphalt. “We’ll have to finish tearing up those spots and then lay down new asphalt in the spring," Askew said, concluding that it will be early summer before flood damage repairs are completed.
