In Virginia, the Gold Cup will be contested for the final time at the Broadview Course at Warrenton on May 5. The queen of Virginia timber races will then gracefully depart for the new Great Meadow course at The Plains. Great Meadow will have a preview fall meeting Oct. 20 and it is expected that the renewal of the International Gold Cup will take place then.
The spectacular cup, first given at the Grasslands meeting in Tennessee in 1930 as a gift from Alonzo, King of Spain, to that once great race meeting, was transferred from the Rolling Rock meeting this past winter for use at the Great Meadow Races.
