Again this year, VITA volunteers will provide free tax assistance for low income, elderly, handicapped and non-English speaking people who will be filing short tax return forms or who qualify for the Earned Income Credit.
VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and has been available to Virginians for 15 years. In 1983, VITA workers helped prepare more than 18,000 returns at 339 sites across the state.
