“Are you saying you’re budgeting for the rest of the building?” Oliver asked Estabrook. “I can’t imagine anything more essential than a roof.”
Estabrook said that the rest of the roofing project would be included in his budget proposals to be submitted to the School Board and in turn the Board of Supervisors.
Attendance Improved
In other business, Estabrook reported he was “very proud” of the effort demonstrated by children and their parents in increasing the percentage of attendance to date. Including the 13 teaching days of January, the average daily attendance stood at 95.2 percent for the current school year. That compares to 92.78 percent during the same period a year ago. The total enrollment at both schools is 1,068. The average daily attendance is 975.46.
School Board Chairman Beverly Massie called the climbing percentage an indication of “the support that education is receiving from the homes” in Rappahannock.
