A snowstorm that caught motorists all over the state off-guard ruined any hope the Blue Ridge Hunt had for good weather for their point-to-point races March 10 and caused the meet to be postponed to Sunday, April 29.

‘There isn’t much you can do about this sort of thing,” said Pete Dunning Jr., the racing chairman for the hunt. “If it had only been a couple of inches we could have gone ahead, but with the four or five inches we had here it would have been too much of a job, and with temperatures hovering around 24 degrees and the wind Mowing we would probably only get the real die-hard fans anyway.”

The decision to postpone the meet was made midmorning Friday, and local radio stations, newspapers.
