wire surrounded by a living, brtathing congregation. Frpm the time we ate our first communion, we have come to the Lord’s table in a gathering of people. Have we forgotten that even the things we do in private devotions at one time we learned in the midst of the church?
Most of us can understand the sacraments as the charitable acts of God through the ordained ministry. At the same time, we must not fail to see the worship experience itself as an encounter with the Almighty. Have we secretly decided that we will be off to church when something important is going on?
The point is, there obtains a mystical healing when Christians come together for worship. Jesus once promised, “Where two or three are gathered. . . there am I in the midst. . .” The risen Lord himself is present and active in Christian worship.
This is no mere quest for information. Data we can get from the “media church.” What we do receive when we come together is a refreshing, weekly glimpse of the Lord of the church. We experience together the presence of God.
There is no substitute for the worshiping assembly.
