The orchestral version of “Variations on §• Theme of Haydn, Op. 56 a” will highlight the’ concert. William Averitt, associate professor of theory and composition, will conduct the Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra in what is considered one of Brahm’s most popular and widelyloved works.
Karen Walker, of the Shenandoah piano faculty, will play four of Brahms’s “Fantasies for Piano, Op. 166” Conservatory faculty members Stephen Johnston, Allen Whear 9Ljid Elizabeth Temple will perform the “Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Op. 114,” one of several late chamber music works using the clarinet.
Children’s Theater
“Robin Goodfellow,” a children’s theater production based on Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, will be performed at Shenandoah College and Conservatory in Winchester on Saturday, March 17, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and on Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m. in the Theatre Studio. '
“Robin Goodfellow” is the fantasy story of a boy who was bom in a house favored by the fairies. Some thought his father was King Oberon. King of the Fairies. The action begins when robin awakens from a dream about fairies singing and dancing and finds a scroll inscribed with golden letters. The scroll gives instructions from King Oberon and concludes with the promise that, if Robin obeys, “one day thou shalt see Fairy Land.” —
