The Rappahannock School Board met in advance of last week’s budget meeting to tour the elementary school building at the request of several teachers who were concerned about the severity of leaks in the roof.
During the days following last month’s torrential rainfall, teachers found floods on the floors and stains running down the walls. The smell of soggy insulation permeated the building. Teachers said they feared for the safety of their pupils and themselves if any of the waterlogged ceiling should happen to fall.
The School Board was joined by architect Lowell Baughan and Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard Latham during its building inspection.
