In accord with the ethical obligations they accepted along with their bar certificates, four county attorneys are participating in the Pro Bono Program under the auspices of the Rappahannock Legal Services.
James W. Fletcher, Sharon Gene bach Luke, Peter H. Luke and Douglas K. Baumgardner are among 39 private attorneys in the Rappehannock-Rapidan Planning District who have agreed to donate up to 20 hours apiece of reduced rate legal services to local residents.
"This program is intended to give indigent people who could not otherwise afford legal assistance greater access to the private bar,” explained Baumgardner, president of the Rappahannock Bar Association and the county bar’s representative on the Pro Bono advisory board. “Under our canons of professional responsibility, the private bar has an obligation to make itself accessible to people who cannot afford legal services.”
