Shenandoah College and Conservatory will be the site this summer of a Vir*ginia Governor’s School Interest Center. Programs will be offered for gifted student music composers and student actors for four weeks, June 11 - July 6.
The music composition courses will be taught by Conservatory faculty members Dr. Thomas Albert, a composer and chairman of the Theory Division at Shenandoah, and Jeffrey Schleifer, composer and director of the Community Arts Program.
Students will attend classes in melody writing, theory, notation, electronic music and improvisation. They will compose, perform and record a final music project in a style and form of their own choosing.
The center for gifted actors will be directed by Harold and Linde Herman, professional actors and directors and members of the Conservatory faculty. Students will study acting technique and improvisation and will be associated with Shenandoah’s professional summer music theatre repertory company.
