Ironically, the snow that postponed racing over the fences last weekend apparently helped the Warrenton Hunt Point-to-Point post a record number of entries for Saturday’s races.
The March 17 races will be the first on the Virginia circuit since the Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point on March 3. Bad weather last weekend forced postponement of the circuit’s third scheduled event, the Blue Ridge Hunt Point-to-Point at Berryville. Those races are rescheduled for April 29.
Saturday’s races are to be the Warrenton Hunt’s last meet at Broadview Farm, near the heart of Warrenton’s commercial district.
In 1985, if all goes as planned, the Virginia Gold Qup and the Warrenton Point-to-Point will move to new homes. The Gold Cup will be held at Great Meadow near The Plains; the Warrenton meet’s site has not been decided yet.
With 139 entries for racing ' Saturday, there may even be too many contestants. At least three of the seven races may be split, extending the racing hours almost to dusk. The first race
