Since there are three yield levels, a farmer has nine alternatives. Only the top yield guarantee at the highest price will assure that he will receive his total out of pocket cost irrespective of yield.
The premiums vary with the yield risk. A farmer in Southside Virginia with an average yield of 80 bushels may have to pay $12 for a 75 percent coverage and $2.90 price guarantee. A farmer in Iowa with a 150 bushel average yield may pay only $7 for the same 75 percent covMarket
