only enjoyed riding the horses, swimming in the pond and walking through the orchard. I never really enjoyed my chores pf feeding the animals, plowing the fields or baling the hay; Ah though weeding our garden wasn’t exactly fun, it was more than just a great way to vent my frustrations. It was fruitful, too! Yet there was much that I hadn’t learned simply because ) hadn’t been perceptive. Its a mistake that I still regret.
But I had reached an important decision. I had decided upon a career that could make me happy and be enjoyable, but it required a return trip to college. I did not go back to the computer field, but instead entered into the department of horticulture. In case you’re wondering, agriculture is hort’s big brother. So, I was planning on becoming a horticulturist, not a farmer (no offense intended). And working with plants everyday seemed like a pleasant solution to my problem. Definitely a change from working with computers. But life still wasn’t a bed of roses, or

I will never forget those six to eight hour stints in the library studying chemistry. They weren’t wonderful, but not impossible either. Luckily for me, an extension agent on campus offered me an opportunity to gain additional exposure in landscaping while I was still a student. In return for helping him to teach seminars, I got my first clients as a landscape horticulturist. What a t rewarding challenge it was
