The three races likely to be split are the open timber which has 24 entries, the maiden hurdles with 20 entries and the flat race with 46 entries. They are the third, fourth and seventh races on the card.
“We will not know until we get the scratches on race day if all three races will have to be split,” said Douglas Lees, chairman of the Warrenton races. .“We would like to only have to split two, like we did last year, but with the size of the entries we may have to split all three.”
One of the most exciting races on the card appears to be the owner-rider timber race, The Dell Cup which is part of the Arundel Newspapers sponsored Seven Corners Championship series.
When entries closed Monday night 15 horses were slated to go to the post for that race. Among the runners are Jeffery LeHew’s Lucky And Bold, which won the owner-rider timber race at Rappahannock two weeks ago.
Others include Jeremy Gillam’s Redgate, Timber Horse of the Year in 1983, Don Yovanovich’s Never Time, second in both the Casanova and Rappahannock
