Harold G. Brown, 85, of Winchester, died Monday, March 5, 1984, at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at Christ Episcopal Church in Winchester by the Rev. David H. Knight and Rev. Lee Dudley. Burial was at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Woodville.
Mr. Brown was born October 18, 1898, in Woodville, the son of the late Dr. James G. and Cora Reid Brown. He attended Randolph-Macon College and retired as president of Shenandoah Valley National Bank in 1964. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, was past president of the Winchester Rotary Club and was awarded the 50-year membership award and the Paul Harris Award in December.
Mr. Brown was named Outstanding Boss by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1966. He was past president of Chamber of Commerce and received the chamber’s award of merit in 1964. He was a former member of the Industrial Development Commission and was a member of the Virginia and American Banking Associations.
Surviving with his wife, Helen Thomas Miller Brown, are a son, Harold G. Brown Jr. of Winchester; two daughters, Helen Buckley of Middletown and Frances Russell of Huntly; a sister Frances Churchill Jones of Richmond; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were D. Fletcher Buckley Jr., Thomas Miller Buckley, Daniel Reid Buckley, William Rice Matthews III, and H. Gerry Brown III.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
Jones Funeral Home in Winchester was in charge of arrangements.
David Smoot
Born In Washington
David Owen Smoot, 59, of Culpeper, died Tuesday, Biarch 6,1984, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born in Washington, Va., he was the son of Mrs. Leala Burke of Culpeper and the late L. J. Smoot. He served in the Korean War and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife Mrs. Gladys Settle Smoot of Culpeper; three daughters, Mrs. Linda Buraker, Miss Doris A. Smoot and Miss Brenda K. Smoot, all of Culpeper, three sons, Larry W. Smoot, Jerry 0. Smoot and Steve L. Smoot, all of Culpeper; two foster children, John Caylor and Tina Caylor of Culpeper and one grandchild.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Jenkins and Mrs. Bessie Butler, both of Culpeper and two brothers, William F. Smoot of Culpeper and Robert Smoot of Boonesville, Maryland.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday at the Moody Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Elmer Bosserman. Burial was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
